CENTER FOR YOUNG CHILDREN

A program for

children’s development and enrichment

Infants: Ages 1 through 2

Preschool:  Ages 3 through 5

Tuesdays and Thursdays

9:00am to 2:00pm

A loving, Christian Age-Appropriate Atmosphere

Experienced Care Givers and Teachers

  • The Center for Young Children follows the Grand Prairie Independent School District Calendar.
  • Classes are kept small so that care givers and teachers have time for individual attention.

  • Our teachers are responsible, caring adults trained in early childhood development and in directing age-appropriate activities.
  • Maximum number of children:
    • 1-year-olds - 6
    • 18-month-olds - 6
    • 2-year-olds - 8
    • 3-year-olds - 8
    • 4-year-olds - 10
  • Although our building is used for many other activities, on Tuesday and Thursday it is solely devoted to the Learning Center.
  • The entrance is locked at 9:30 a.m. and the bell must be rung for admittance.
  • Our church sexton's office is located in the Learning Center building. He is on the premises much of the children's day. All of the children know "Mr. Rick" and he knows them by name.

CLEANLINESS

  • Cleanliness may not really be "next to godliness," but it certainly ranks high with us.
  • Our babies do not share beds or toys. Plus, after each use, toys and rooms are sanitized with a hospital-recommended antiseptic cleaning solution.
  • Bathrooms are cleaned and sanitized after each Tuesday and Thursday. They are also disinfected with antiseptic spray during the day.

CURRICULUM

  • Children are placed in classes based on their birth date at the beginning of each school year coinciding with the Grand Prairie Public School calendar and state recommendations.
  • Each class preparation is based on the social, emotional, motor, and academic development that is age appropriate.
  • During the year, all of the classes enjoy seasonal decorations.
  • The baby and toddler rooms have colorful decorations to stimulate their senses.
  • They experience snack time and lunch together, as well as group and individual play, and nap time.
  • The preschool classes have monthly theme studies.
  • All through the year, there are special events and celebrations that take place, including community helper visits, field trips, holiday parties and programs.
  • Music and movement is a big part of the curriculum for all ages.
  • The 3 year-old classes are introduced to colors, shapes and numbers, as well as topics pertinent to their understanding of the world around them.
  • The 4 year-old Pre-K classes are introduced to numbers, letters and name writing.
  • Weather permitting, the children can play on the private, fenced-in playground. The preschool children may use the fellowship hall or youth building during winter weather.
  • All children are provided a morning snack.
  • Lunches are brought from home.
  • We do not teach a specific doctrine, but the children will learn about God’s love.

SAFETY

Safety of the children is of the

utmost importance.

  • Identification procedures for each child will be in place when the child is enrolled.
  • Pictures and written information must be on file for anyone allowed to pick up your child prior to attending the Learning Center.

  • All staff members of the Learning Center for Young Children and the church staff have had background checks.

FOOD & SNACKS

  • Infants will be fed bottles as requested - but must be prepared by the parent.
  • Toddlers and preschoolers will be served a snack with water.
  • Please let us know if your child has any food allergies.
