Hacky Sacks For Haiti PDF Print E-mail

Hacky Sacks For Haiti is a ministry of First United Methodist Church of Grand Prairie inspired by two of our youth who happen to be sisters: Mandy McSwain and Karah Nicole Joye. We hope you purchase some hacky sacks because you will not only receive a hacky sack, but more important, you will give a hacky sack; plus, additional money to help Haiti. The cost is $5.00.The hacky sacks will go to Haitian youth whereas the additional money will go to UMCOR's Haiti relief efforts. UMCOR is the humanitarian relief and development agency of the United Methodist Church, a worldwide denomination. Compelled by Christ, UMCOR responds to natural or human made disasters—those interruptions of such magnitude that they overwhelm a community's ability to recover on its own. Also, UMCOR's administrative costs are covered by United Methodist Churches.  ALL of your money will go directly toward the relief effort.

If you want both hacky sacks to go to Haiti check the in store pick up box on the order form, or just tell a youth who is selling them.

Go to www.fumcgp.org (church website) and buy hacky sacks!!! By purchasing a hacky sack you will receive one, give one to a Haitian youth, and donate money to UMCOR's Haiti relief efforts. Buy some and spread the word!!!

Senior High Mission Trip PDF Print E-mail

The senior high mission trip was a huge success! To hear the kids talk about it is absolutely amazing. They worked hard, prayed hard, and then played hard. If you were at the Administrative Council meeting last night, you heard Amanda Jaskie talk about how proud we should be of this group. They were small in number but mighty in deed. They learned to roof houses and hang sheet rock. They learned how to use all kinds of power tools and muscles they didn't know existed! As the mid-high youth get ready to go to the same area we need to be in prayer for all who are going and for the difference we know they will make in those they help.It is truly a loving congregation who supports the youth mission trips and makes it all possible! We are a mission supporting church!

GRAND PRAIRIE FOOD & CLOTHING CO-OP

The Grand Prairie Food & Clothing Assistance Co-op is composed of 19 churches and five service organizations.

The Mission of the Grand Prairie Co-op is to provide emergency food, clothing and crisis assistance to needy citizens of Grand Prairie and to others who may meet specific eligibility requirements.   Clients must be residents of Grand Prairie and meet the TexCap income limits for households.   Photo ID and Social Security Card required for applicant; Social Security Card for spouse; and birth certificates for children.  Proof of residency required.

Each family is eligible for food three times per year and monetary assistance once a year.  The Co-op shares client assistance with other agencies in the city and county. Food Items We Always Need are: Canned Meats and Canned Chili, Soups, Peanut Butter, Jelly, Cereal and donations of money to purchase food.

Our clothing pantry receives “gently” used clothing for use by clients.  We need seasonal clothing that is clean and in good condition.  Always needed are children’s clothing, blue jeans and work clothes.  Shoes, socks, and underwear are also in demand (no used underwear or panties, please).  Donations of bed linens and towels accepted.

The Co-op also needs contributions to its Crisis Fund to help people in desperate circumstances.  This fund assists with utilities and rent for those facing eviction, as well as gasoline for clients with job interviews.   The fund also covers partial payments on prescription drugs.

Every dollar given to the Co-op goes for client services and related expenses.  There is no paid staff.  For the year 2008, the Co-op served 3,182 families (totaling 8,460 individuals).
