Once a year, along with communities across the country, we count our homeless friends. The Count, a requirement under Federal Law, helps communities understand the extent of homelessness, changing trends, and the measure of success in making homelessness as rare, brief and nonrecurring as possible.
The Count takes place on Thursday night, January 24, 2019 from 6 p.m. – 11 p.m at the Grand Prairie Public Safety Building Community Meeting Room (1525 Arkansas Lane Grand Prairie, TX 75051).
Training will be provided by the Grand Prairie Homeless Outreach Organization (GPHOO), the Tarrant County Homeless Coalition and the MetroDallas Homeless Alliance. Volunteers are asked to sign up in teams of at least 2 people each (four are preferable). Individuals and teams of 2-3 people will be grouped into larger teams. One member of each team of 4 or more will need to have a smartphone and will be asked to upload a special app for counting the homeless. Volunteers will go in their own cars. Grand Prairie Police Officers will escort the teams as needed.
Deadline to register is 5 p.m., January 18th. Must be 18 or older to participate. Teams of at least 2 people are requested. Each person e-mail your name and phone number to firstname.lastname@example.org. Additional instructions and a release form will be sent to you.
